Virtual treasure hunt for team building everyone can participate in a treasure hunt even if they are not very good at teamwork. The first step is to form a team of people that usually works together: co-workers, relatives, friends, or family members, and then they will work as a team.
What is a virtual treasure hunt?
A virtual treasure hunt is a team-building event that uses clues and puzzles, usually presented in an interactive computer game. The treasure hunt is designed to take the participants on an adventure, challenge them to solve creative problems and puzzles, explore, and think out of the box. The treasure hunt is made up of individual clues. Each clue leads to the next one, to lead the participants through a series of puzzles and tasks that eventually lead them to the treasure. A map is usually provided as part of the game, but it may be cryptic or misleading if created using puzzle clues.
The clues are normally presented in an electronic format, typically in a computer game. This allows for each clue to be customized for each team playing the game and can allow for more complex interactions between the teams and their environment. There will often be multiple teams playing different games against each other simultaneously.
How to create a virtual treasure hunt?
One can use avirtual treasure hunt to bring their team together and get them working as a team.
- First, select a story from the internet or create one of their own that will serve as a starting point for the treasure hunt. The story should be interesting enough to entice their team members but not so detailed that attendees have no opportunity to connect with it.
- Select two or three specific locations where one wants to hold the treasure hunt activities. These locations should be close enough for attendees to visit during their lunch hour without too much trouble (driving, public transportation, etc.) and available during normal business hours if one is holding this event on a weekday.
- Choose three or four clues that will take teams from location to location and make up a list of those clues in order. One option is to create a list of the questions and a separate list of the answers (and perhaps how they were discovered) – another is to jot down their thoughts as one comes up with them in order. Make sure one has at least one clue for each location selected for the treasure hunt!
- Print out copies of all the clues and make enough copies for each attendee plus one or two extras in case others are interested in playing and let them solve get to the hidden treasure and a great chance to know each other and let them help each other to make most out of each personability.
The length of a treasure hunt can vary from a few hours to days or even weeks if played over an extended period. It can also be played at any time during the year. This flexibility makes virtual treasure hunts ideal for businesses wanting team-building activities for their staff and any social groups.
